There could be a lot more choice of what to watch and when.

VTCI has been selected as one of the few companies in the country to participate in the National Rural Telecommunications Coop NRTC/NTCA beta trial for broadcast TV via the use of IP protocol. Internet protocol television (IPTV) offers next-generation technology to send out both standard and high definition premium programming over existing DSL lines or fiber.

Trial participants will have access to approximately 120 national TV stations as well as local TV channels that originate in the Rio Grande Valley area. As a trial user each customer will be provided up to three set top boxes and associated TVs for usage during the trial.

The IPTV beta trail will allow VTCI to thoroughly test the technical and market feasibility of transporting broadcast TV content via the new ADSL2 + and FTTH (Fiber to the home) networks.
