What is Fiber-To-The-Home?
Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) or Fiber to the Home (FTTH) is defined as a telecommunications architecture in which a communications path is provided over optical fiber cables extending from the telecommunications operator's switching equipment (VTCI) to (at least) the boundary of the home living space or business office space.
Fiber optics are long, thin strands of pure glass about the diameter of a human hair. They are arranged in bundles called optical cables and are used to transmit light signals (data) over long distances.
Benefits of Fiber-To-The-Home
Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) or Fiber to the Home (FTTH) refers to a broadband delivery of multiple advanced services such as the tiple play of telephone, broadband internet, and television to homes and businesses.
Imagine your future with digital quality TV and no satellite dish. Imagine your future with digital quality voice calls. Imagine your future with high speed Internet access and no modem or dial-up. Studies show that those who have FTTH will add $4,000 – $5,000 to their home's value.
In South Texas, VTCI is the leader in fiber optic communications, and in Starr County, Alta Vista Village is the second fiber powered community. In 2005, VTCI implemented FTTH connectivity in the 755 County Estates development, located north of Rio Grande City. Since then homeowners in this area have been reaping the benefits of higher speeds.
